How our electricity bill calculator works

Enter the number of units (kWh) you consumed this month, choose your consumer category (protected, unprotected, commercial, industrial or agricultural), and the calculator applies the current NEPRA slab structure exactly the way your DISCO does — including Fuel Price Adjustment, Quarterly Tariff Adjustment, 1.5% electricity duty, 18% GST, Rs. 35 PTV licence fee and (for bills above Rs. 25,000) 7.5% withholding income tax.

The output matches your actual MEPCO, LESCO, IESCO, GEPCO, FESCO, PESCO, HESCO, SEPCO, QESCO, TESCO or K-Electric bill within a few rupees. The small variance comes from DISCO-specific surcharges and rounding.

The inclining-block slab structure explained

Pakistan uses an inclining-block tariff — every unit above a slab boundary is billed at a higher rate than the units below it. The 2025-26 unprotected residential slabs are:

  • 1-100 units — Rs. 16.48/unit
  • 101-200 units — Rs. 22.95/unit
  • 201-300 units — Rs. 27.14/unit
  • 301-400 units — Rs. 32.03/unit
  • 401-500 units — Rs. 35.24/unit
  • 501-600 units — Rs. 36.66/unit
  • 601-700 units — Rs. 37.80/unit
  • Above 700 units — Rs. 42.72/unit

Add roughly Rs. 5-6/unit for FPA + QTA + surcharges, then 18% GST on the whole sum. That's why a 500-unit household commonly sees a Rs. 25,000-30,000 bill.

The 200-unit cliff — protected vs unprotected

Households that used ≤ 200 units every month for the previous six consecutive months are classified as Protected and pay dramatically lower rates: Rs. 11.69/unit in the 1-100 slab and Rs. 14.16/unit in 101-200. Everyone else is Unprotected.

The double-jump everyone talks about happens at 201 units: not only does the extra unit price into a higher slab, but you also lose protected status — so all 201 units re-price at unprotected rates. A jump from 200 to 210 units can nearly double the bill.

Ways to keep your electricity bill under control

  • Stay under 200 units if you're anywhere close — the protected discount is worth Rs. 1,000+ per month.
  • Replace all bulbs with LED — a single incandescent bulb left on 5 hours/day uses ~15 units/month; an LED equivalent uses ~2.
  • Set AC to 26 °C — every degree colder adds ~8% to compressor load.
  • Unplug idle chargers, TVs and dispensers — standby drain is 30-60 units/month in a typical household.
  • Consider rooftop solar — see our solar savings calculator. A 5 kW system pays back in 3-4 years at current tariffs.
