AC Running Cost

A 1.5-ton non-inverter AC draws roughly 1.5 kW at full compressor load. Running it 8 hours a day at 26 °C uses about 10-12 units per day, or 300-360 units per month. At unprotected rates that's Rs. 12,000-17,000 in bill impact from one AC alone.

An inverter AC (DC inverter) at the same setpoint uses 30-50% less energy because the compressor modulates rather than cycling on/off. Payback for the extra Rs. 30,000-50,000 upfront cost is typically one summer.
